Whisky is an alcoholic beverage obtained by distilling fermented grain malt from cereals such as barley, wheat, rye and corn, and its subsequent aging in wooden barrels, traditionally white oak. This alcoholic beverage is marketed with an alcohol content of between 40 and 62% by volume.
The term whisky or whiskey derives from the Scottish Gaelic uisge beatha and Irish Gaelic uisce beathadh, meaning “water of life”.
